You know, quite honestly---I think this is a real problem with current mmo's. First of all, considering they're open-ended (EVERQuest, ahem), it seems silly to apply an "endgame" mentality to things, although I understand why it's done. But it seems that so many games are equating "endgame" = "raiding", and that's why they're losing their playerbase. Hell, I'm just as goal-oriented and achievement driven as the next player, but that doesn't always mean "up" for a direction. "Different" to me is just as desirable...exploring and playing outward and inward instead of upwards.
Sorry, rant over. I just recently found myself becoming bored with EQ II and tried to figure out why, because I love the game. And the above is the conclusion to which I came.
