You know, quite honestly---I think this is a real problem with current mmo's. First of all, considering they're open-ended (EVERQuest, ahem), it seems silly to apply an "endgame" mentality to things, although I understand why it's done. But it seems that so many games are equating "endgame" = "raiding", and that's why they're losing their playerbase. Hell, I'm just as goal-oriented and achievement driven as the next player, but that doesn't always mean "up" for a direction. "Different" to me is just as desirable...exploring and playing outward and inward instead of upwards.

Sorry, rant over. I just recently found myself becoming bored with EQ II and tried to figure out why, because I love the game. And the above is the conclusion to which I came. Very Happy

i did like to raid, the first few times.
the novelty wears off when you have to spend so much time just preparing for a raid. getting the people together, gearing and attuning everyone, not to mention the grind once you have defeated the dungeon but run it again and again (and again) just for loot...ugh.

Yeah, and then most raid guilds expect you to do that 3 times a week, minimum. No thanks.

You never played FFXI did ya? Unless they changed it with their last fail of an expansion, that's how you got your levels. The story lines in that game were great. I hate to say it but I played FFXI since the PS2 release.

As for WoW I only started to play it hell not even 6 months ago. I hated the cartoon graphics at first, honestly they still bug me but I had friends that played it and FFXI got too tiresome trying to find a group to grind out your levels.

So far AoC is very addictive to me, only have 2 classes at level 20ish in the closed beta, but things really are different once you get to leave Tortage.

I can see my wife getting pissed at me for staying up late on the weekends Very Happy

Ugh. Awful and cartoony, I hated the battle-and user interfaces. And boring! And no design, no details.

I guess I'm a bit of an EQ II fangirl, but I just couldn't play it.

I did the exact same thing and finally ended up in EQ2 also... I hate the cartoon graphics look, I love the realism of AoC... and when I did my first decapitation and blood hit my camera, I knew I had a new game-home!

I lasted in wow just about 2 months. The game itself was well thought out and quite polished for an mmo. What ended up breaking it for me was the community in almost every server I played on. I'd almost rather play a semi-good mmo with a great community then a great mmo with a crap community and that was just the impression I got from wow.

That and imo a little to cartoony for my tastes. Classes although were kinda fun to play and lots of quests to do, so its not by any means a bad mmo, just not for me.

I was into WoW from about 2 weeks after launch until last week. My subscription runs out Friday. I can't knock the game. It was really the first PC game i ever played besides Battlefield 1942. I guess thats why the graphics never bothered me the way it does alot of people.

But i had a blast with WoW for a very long time. as much of a grind as it has turned into. I'll always remember it fondly because of the first couple of years. (i can't believe i just typed that...)

But for now, AoC is all i want to play. So long WoW, you were great.

Played Warcraft for about 2 weeks - hated it. I always was an EQ'er both 1 and 2. I dont like floppy ears and shoddy grafix.
Altho - at the time it came out my daughter was 10 and no lie - she leveled a Tauren Hunter (i think) to the high 20's in 2/3 months of only playing sporadically. She was upset that I had cancelled the sub.
