Call of Duty 5: world at war

Picked this up today with a gift card I got for Xmas. It's about what I expected. It's almost exactly like cod 4 with some minor changes. It's WII instead of modern like COD4 was. The only real difference I see is that they have tanks you can drive in this one where as COD4 did not.

Entertaining for about 30 min max. I skipped the single player and went to multilplayer since I wanted to frag some people.

My biggest complaint: The maps are too small and it rando spawns you in different areas near places you are "needed" so to speak. While that is interesting, it really detracts from the game IMHO. The # of spawn deaths is insane. Many times you will spawn and you are dead in 1 or 2 steps because it put you somewhere someone was covering or it spawns you into a dog attack or artillery attack.

Great looking game, if they had better maps for either CTF or Domination mode it would be much better. Time to start looking to see if someone modded it I guess, maybe there will be some new maps out there. Otherwise I'm going to sell/trade this one I think.

In an update to my own review:

This game just got lamer. Last night after our T2 group broke up I played this for about half an hour before bed. I found that servers can set the level of XP for kills on their own. I had played for about 4 hours and went from level 1 to about 14 or 15. Level lets you get better guns, which are very helpful as everyone you play against seems to be very high level and have everything. It also lets you get new abilities like more grenades, extra sprint, etc.

So then I shot someone on a server that I had joined because it was full and my ping was low and low and beyond it gave me 3000 XP instead of the usual 50 or what not. It boosted me 2 or 3 ranks. At the end of playing for about an hour, I'm rank 52 out of 65. Now I know why everyone has everything.....

LAME. They should have just skipped that and given everyone a "play with everything" check box for online and left the other balogna for single player.

So the graphics are great. the game play is bleh. New maps might make it worth while, but my recommendation for now is don't spend the money. I"m regretting that I did.
