Defense Types

Does anyone know the exact difference between Defense Rating and Heroic Defense Rating? I've gotten a few armor types now that have a great deal more of one then the other, but I am unsure which is really better for tanking, soloing, etc. Any insight would be hawt.

Last idea about them I read said that Defense Rating was used agains mobs equal to or below your level and that heroic defense were for mobs above your level. I have not tried testing this myself so take it for what it is.
