    I don't read fiction.

You my friend are weird as hell......the only reason i read is because of fiction i get enough non fiction in my everyday life!

My husband (Connacht, who should be returning to WAR shortly) doesn't either. He reads mostly history, particularly military-related, books. And I can confirm that he is weird as hell, too. Though, I think that applies to both of us, so it's ok Very Happy

LOL.....that's sounding like me...I read history, technical, 3D stuff, photography ...hell...non-fiction!

Yeah, lately I have just been reading non-fiction stuff related to school--web standards, design principles, etc. But I like reading fiction--when I have time.

Well I got a new book for Christmas and could not put it down!

David Weber is one of my all time favorite authors, and the book is Off Armageddon Reef.

    Brief Synopsis -

Mankind has traveled to the stars and encounters an alien race wars with them and is on the verge of destruction, they recently found a earthlike planet thousands of light years away from the current area of war and can only guarentee mankinds survival by getting rid of all technological aspects of modern life as the aliens track thier enemies from emissions that modern items give off.

Thats the premise a short 10 page prelude of running to survive, the rest of the book is devoted to that simpilier life but through the eyes of a woman who was uploaded into an AI body that the technological ancestors used to use for exploring hazardous areas or dangerous work or play actitivies so they could expierience it without the risk, these AI bodies can be manipulated by the AI to assume any appearance and are fully functional, you would not know it to be an AI. However the AI is more than just that it is the complete memory and download of the person, so real there were laws governing them, in essence these AI's have a humanity and consicouness.

As a former military commander of one of earths warships her AI was set up in a secret cave as the new settelers politicians set up a fake religion and in a couple generations made those that came after totally oblivious to the fact mankind used to be an advanced race instead of simple farmers and seafarers. They abuse thier power and over time appear as gods to the people as they stll have nanotechnology that slows thier aging, but alas over time even they die off but those that come after have a blind faith to the lie of thier beliefs, that is until the mind of the former commander comes online at a predetermined time like almost 2000 years after settling the planet and begins a course of slowing bringing mankind back to the modern era.

I highly recommend this I have never seen a book that transitions from the advanced world to the medivel times so easily and so well done.
