    Help! My emoticons are static!

Post by Stigma on Sun Jun 15, 2008 12:35 am

Okay, this is ticking me off, because I can't figure out what I did to break this.

So, I recently upgraded my computer, and after reinstalling everything I've found that nothing animates in my browser anymore. No emoticons, no gifs, nothing. It's not exclusively Firefox, because I tried IE and I get the same result. Mind you, I can still view Flash files, and all other normal internet stuff works fine (youtube and whatnot). But these damn emoticons (and stuff like them) seem to not be loading or animating.

I have a terrible feeling it has something to do with ZoneAlarm (security software), but for the life of me I'm not sure what I did, and I don't know how to fix it. I suppose I could completely uninstall (or turn off) ZoneAlarm, but I'd rather not bounce around the internet without security.

FYI - ZoneAlarm sucks. Don't use it. Even Norton was better than this thing.

[Edit: Completely disabling ZoneAlarm, then relaunching Firefox doesn't seem to have fixed this either.]

I don't even know what Java does. (Other than wake me up in the morning and throughout the day. Smile ) How could I even address this if it were the problem?
