Q) Have you read our Code of Conduct and Forum Rules?
A) Excellent stuff. Great guild foundation. In fact, they were so good, I was hoping you also had Terms and Conditions and other stuff with fine print. I dig the details...
Q) Are you at least 18+ years of age? [yes, no, actual age is optional]
A) Almost 51 actually. I'm one of the old die hards who continues to stand up for truth, justice, and mostly to get the blood going back to his feet.
Q) Have you read at least one of our example applications? [this is highly recommended]
A) Yes I did. In fact, I plagiarized several of them, just changing a few words here and there to make mine look original. Wait. What did I type? Damn, there goes my Truth Taurets again...
Q) Do you have any relatives or friends currently in the guild, or were you recruited by someone? If so, who?
A) No one recruited me. I noticed some folks in the AoC forums who were members of the guild, and clicked on one of their post footers. The posts reflected attitudes about gaming that are similar to mine, so I was curious to check you folks out. Realized that you actually embrace people who have lives outside of the games they play. Well, not literally embrace. There may be an in-game emote that supports the whole touchy-feeling thing in game, but I doubt I'd get any virtual hugs until I was actually in the guild. And if I didn't get a hug, I mean, that would be okay. I don't need in-game hugs. I'm secure in who I am. I have a job. I get out sometimes.
Q) Name: [planned in game/forum name]
A) Varinius. It is a name that I started using in "Gods & Heroes" (played the closed beta, but of course that's all there was to that MMO). The name is from Publius Varinius, who was a Roman praetor in 73 BC and proconsul in 72 BC. He suffered several defeats against Spartacus' rebellious slaves during the Third Servile War. Now, given the history, the name is hardly one to be proud of. It just sounded cool.
Q) Gender: [female, male]
A) Male, but don't hold it against me. I played a female character in WoW once, but when I found myself dancing virtually naked as a female Night Elf and hitting on a drooling male Night Elf standing nearby, I typed DELETE and never looked back.
Q) What region do you live in? [City and State is fine.]
A) California, not that there's anything wrong with it. A West Coaster. Hope the time zone works for the guild.
Q) How did you hear about us: [friend, another member, forum, google, other mmo's, etc]
A) AoC guild forum. Trying to find a great guild that shares the same ideals and maturity level. Well, I'm a little too mature, age wise. A tad gamey, and gotta watch the breath occasionally.
Q) Are you currently in any other Age of Conan guilds?
A) No. Of course not. How dare you ask!
Q) Have you applied to any other Age of Conan guilds?
A) No, again. Of course not, again. How dare you ask, again!
Q) We like to have fun, how's your sense of humor? Not so good? Good? You're a standup comedian you say?
A) Good sense of humor. Life of the party. Everyone hands me the microphone and wants me to entertain. Too much pressure, though, so I go low key at times. I might just roleplay a deaf mute DT in AoC and just type words like "Hrummmpphhh" in chat all the time if I'm not selected to join the Hammerfist Clan!
Q) What other MMO's have you played if any: [Acquired a few skills from some other games eh? Tell us about them]
A) DaoC, WoW, LOTRO, Guild Wars, EQ2. Let's see, what else? Hmm... Sure, I've accumulated more skills than I care to share (or can even remember), although most of them are what NOT to do, like sell off a bunch of drops only to find out I needed them to make armor, or fall into the lava when the spawn point is, like, miles away. Spent most of my time in DoaC and WoW. The former was a blast but it was a big challenge getting higher in levels without investing a ton of hours. Although people tend to put down WoW, I've enjoyed myself there, esp. when I was involved in a great guild on Cenarion Circle (PvE). I was the guild's master Alchemist (lvl 300 - before the expansion), and enjoyed much of my time making potions and collecting herbs for the guild. Created quests for some new alchemists for which rewards would be rare recipes or herb stacks. My time grew short due to work, though, and eventually the guild was absorbed by another guild and WoW was never the same again. Couldn't find a similar group of people like myself. I've also spent a lot of time in LOTRO, but not finding a good guild there lessened that experience. Knowing Hammerfists are there, I might consider returning if I'm honored with guild membership. My sights though are now soley on AoC, and being part of a great guild will be really important to get the most from the experience.
Q) What makes you want to join us over some of the other AoC guilds? [let us know!]
A) The posts of some of your members in the AoC forums struck me as dead on and were a real incentive for me to see what you are all about. I've checked other guild websites and read posts of other guilds. There just isn't much there to make me consider any other guild. You describe yourselves to be people just like me. Family man. A real life going on. I don't have tons of time a day to be in game, but when in the game, I look forward to being part of a great group and contribute whatever I can to make it an even greater one. I love to support my guild, and look forward to working on crafting and gathering to help support guild needs. The Hammerfist Clan strikes me as a perfect place for that.
Q) What aspects of Age of Conan excite you the most or worry you? Why?
A) I'm excited about the game in general and its evolution of features such as combat. Lopping off heads! Now how can anyone NOT be excited about that? And as for any new MMO, there's a new virtual world waiting to be discovered. New friends I'm waiting to meet. This game seems to have so much going for it so early in its life. Looks like a real keeper to me.
No worries at the moment. Just the usual game launch/overloaded network/server problems that we may experience. Funcom seems to have done a great job so far. I'm a very patient player - high tolerance for games and their developers. I cut them A LOT of slack.
Q) What is your forum name on the official AoC forums?
A) Varinius as well. Been spending a lot of time there. Posting quite a bit. I've used the forums to help some of its members deal with open beta client problems. I found the CPU affinity issue for dual core processors to be a big help for some, and one of my posts got a lot a great feedback from people helped by the info. It is fun being part of a new game launch and seeing how the people get all excited or depressed and paranoid about things. The AoC forums have a HUGE participation! Very good sign for a new game, although there is a large community of kids/maniacs on there who either lack gray matter or who just want to gank in PvP. Same as other games. This is why I'm looking more toward PvE in AoC - PvP would be great if the community was a mature one.
Q) Is there any other information about yourself you would like to share with us?
A) Married with an 11 yr old daughter, who seems to like PC games as much as her Dad. Dad just doesn't have homework to get in the way of it. Gaming is fit in around the family schedule, usually after everyone hits the sack, or weekends when the usual chores are done. Family is cool with my gaming, but I don't take advantage of that. I do my best to schedule around guild events so support it as much as possible.
Not that this matters, but I also ordered the AoC Collectors Edition. Not sure why, given the price, but when you like something, and I really like AoC, you just have to get all the stuff. Kinda like my wife. Once I turned her on to the TV show '24', she bought all the available seasons on DVD, CTU coffee mugs and sweat shirts, gets the '24' magazine, and, well, I think I can spend $40 more on a game given her investments all of her costs there. (BTW, she just discovered Prison Break. More cash is flowing...).
Please remember to register here on these forums.
A) Will do! Actually, I screwed up and tried to register before I posted this. I posted this application under "VariniusOops", but hope you activitate my earlier "Varinius" forum registration instead.
Q) Do you have any questions for us?
A) What AoC server(s) will you be playing on (assuming you are starting during Early Access)? I'm an Early Access client, so I'd like to select the right server where the Hammerfist Clan will be located. Even if you choose not to let me join. I can still group with ya.
Thanks for the opportunity to join the ranks!
