Where do all these MMO's keep popping up from!! Just a few weeks ago I had never heard of Darkfall... now this one... I'm so out of the loop

I hear you. And wait until consoles start doing them. They are in the works... Everyone wants a piece of what Blizzard has. That's the main thing.
I think what we've seen though is that many of these games will fail or will have a very limited user base during it's lifetime. Many of these have come and gone and really didn't get wide acceptance. We're seeing WAR struggle to keep it's head above water along with some other games like Tabula Rasa. There are still a bunch of them running that have their hard core fans. I think EQ2 just came out with an expansion that has some of those players back for a bit. I don't think anyone is setup right now to dethrone WoW from kind of the MMOs which kills me because it's been out for so long you would figure people would have gotten bored with the content despite the 2 expansions.
Personally I think I'll likely stop being a new adopter of these. I haven't had the best luck with picking them and on release a lot of them still need quite a bit of work. So from now on I'm going to pick them up AFTER they've been around and I can see what the population is like. Before I put a lot of time into them anyway ;-)
