If you have the early access downloaded and patched up, do you need to install the retail version once you have it, or are they both the same?

Re: Early Access vs. Retail Version
No, you shouldn't need the retail version. Remember: the early access download is already up to date and patched, whereas your retail version will be outdated as of a month or so ago.
You can just add your retail key in your account settings, I believe.

Re: Early Access vs. Retail Version
im sticking with the early access download...not reinstalling from the disks...you have to remember the game when gold like a month ago so the game disks will have to be patched which will probably take alot longer than the download. Plus the download servers are down atm, which would make your patch time even longer.
edit...download servers are up...but then they could drop again...who knows. I just registered my CE cd key, account is tagged for early access so it want mess anything up.

Re: Early Access vs. Retail Version
I am confused. I just picked up my pre-order game from Gamestop and the guy working there told me to be sure to install from the discs even if I had been invovled with the EA download. I asked him why and he didnt know...he was just repeating what they (the sales staff) had been told.
He did point out that the games requires 32 GB of hard drive and he doubted that the download equalled that much.
Has anyone seen anything like this direction on any of the more official forums???

Re: Early Access vs. Retail Version
theory only: maby the voices are on the disk?
once you leave tortage in EA most or all of the quests are missiong voice acting
granted i'm not testing that theory out but if someone finds out that a re install is needed to get voices going drop me a line as i would like to have them all the way through.

Re: Early Access vs. Retail Version
Correct, the install download did not take 32 gigs. But once the game was uncompressed and installed, it took up around 32 gigs. I am pretty sure Funcom would have said something already, if we were not supposed to the use the EA version, since the official launch is tomorrow.

Re: Early Access vs. Retail Version
What Dao said makes much more sense. There is no reason download an old version to the masses. This should have all the patches and be the most current version. If there are any problems you have the disk to turn to. The 32gb could just be an estimate of future space needed for patches and such.
After a few discussions about our dealing with Gamestop this week. I have concluded that they are not hiring the best and brightest in the land to staff their stores with.

The Gamestop employees here are effing morons. I wouldn't trust what they say. Anyways, the game does take up 32GB and is the exact same as what is on the retail discs. The EA downlaod was compressed.

Re: Early Access vs. Retail Version
If this helps..
I uninstalled the EA version last night and reinstalled with my disks. Had about a 2 G download in patches, which took me 35 mins after the servers came back up last night.
