Actually I totally have a relevant question to comic book collecting. How the hell do you start? Lol, I have been trying to get into the world of comic book collecting for a while now but I have no clue where I should get started!

I'm kind of in the same boat as balamac. I use to read comics, but it seems that they have gotten a bit out there now and are hard to follow. I wanted to read civil war but there are appearantly so many different versions i dont know where to start. I also wanted to read world war hulk, but same problem i dont know where to start. Do you have any comic you could recommend as a good one to start reading. I am really interested with what they are writing about hulk now and have been looking into the red hulk stuff but it seems kinda crazy and again hard to follow or get into.

Have to agree with the best ones you named, but the worst....really, you named the new one as one of the best. You have him as your avatar, and you don't list Ang Lee's Hulk movie as the worst? Really? At least DD kept with most of the mythology of the series and Jenifer Garner is frickin' hot in red leather. Ang Lee ranks right up there in the comic book adaptations department as Uwe Boll does with game adaptations...

As for the questions on how to start...multiple ways of looking at it. Some people are publisher collectors. i.e. just buy Marvel, DC, Top Cow, Image, etc. Some collect by characters, i.e. all xmen books, or all batman books or superman books. And yet others collect by continuity, perfect example is the Ultimate Marvel line. I like the Ultimate line myself. It is a blast to read. More adult and mature in their direction than alot of the other mainstream books. Just up to you. Read the first few pages of a comic in the store and see if you like it and then start collecting. And I don't know how it is elsewhere, but at the local comic shop around here they allow you to 'rent' a mailbox where basically the staff will pull the new comics you want out when they first come in and put them in your box for when you come pick them up. Good way to make sure you get all those hard to find new series when they show up.

I think i want something more for just reading instead of the collecting reason for buying. I want to find something that has a lot of good villains and fights but it would be nice to get in on the beginning so i'm not left wondering what happened...if you guys have any ideas i would appreciate them.

At least DD kept with most of the mythology of the series and Jenifer Garner is frickin' hot in red leather.

I do agree that the mythology was correct and Garner is hot....that alone does not make a good adaptation..While the first hulk was not great it certainly did not star Ben Affleck....seriously........I actually wish i could forget about the first HULK movie haha maybe i have a certain patronage towards anything HULK related so i probably enjoyed more than i should have...(first movie that is)

    Actually I totally have a
relevant question to comic book collecting. How the hell do you start?
Lol, I have been trying to get into the world of comic book collecting
for a while now but I have no clue where I should get started!

There is a ton of Content out there for the reading, the best thing to do if you want to get caught up is by the Trade Paper Backs, the individual books are hard to come by if you dont have a local shop with tons of back stock. Trades will be a little more expensive but you are getting 5 issues in one book. As kahan said anything Ultimate Marvel is really good and easy to find Trades of...the Ultimate Universe is more set in our current day world and is not related to the other books...it has its own agenda..

Books i Recommend to get caught up in the Marvel universe (if you want to understand whats going on now that is)

The following titles are big events in the universe..

House of M(All of the titles)
Civil War (not just the main titles but if you can get your hands on all the crossovers it really helps understand the story)
    Illuminati(helps understand Planet HUlk)
Planet HULK( need to read this before World War Hulk)
    World War HULK
Secret Invasion( this is going on now and is one of Marvels biggest events IMO...all of the Titles above it ties into Secret Invasion..its truly crazy how this Story line came about...there are however many titles and crossovers to keep you up to date.

    As far as individual Titles:
    Hulk
    The New Avengers
    The Mighty Avengers
    Thor
Exiles/New Exiles(alternate reality from main universe)
Skaar Son of Hulk(but you need to read Planet hulk and WWH first.
Wolverine"old man logan"(set in the future)
    Ultimate X-men
    Uncanny X-men
    X-Force
    Incredible Hercules(actually very good series)

There are so many books just sample a bunch and find the right thing for you..

I would just start off slow and enjoy every book...when i started collecting again a few years back i was maybe purchasing 5-10 books every 2 weeks but now iam a full out addict and spend nearly $100 a week.....Dont tell my wife Razz

I recently got back in the DC universe and let me tell you I was always a Marvel fan at heart but now Iam truly appreciating DC as well recommendations are as follows

THE WATCHMEN( a must read this movie comes out next year and will be epic)
    Justice Society
    Justice League
    Superman/Batman Calaboration

My favorite American "comics" or more properly Graphic Novels:

    1. Maus.

    2. Sandman.

    My favorite regularly considered "comics"

    1. Firefly - because I am hopelessly addicted to that show.

    2. X-Men

    3. Any of the "What If" comics. I love those. They are so different.

    My Favorite Japanese Manga:

    1. Ranma 1/2

    2. Berserk

    3. Ruruouni Kenshin.

As for worst comic book to film: X-Men 3. I know it doesn't directly answer the question but I hated that movie so much and it had such a gapping plot hole and the end sucked cussing Well you get it.

Best comic book to film: I am going to buck the trend and say Batman. The Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholas one. Given the campy, cheesy Adam West Batman movies which were its predecessor and hiring Michael Keaton the comedian to play it, I was really thinking "Great, Adam West Rides again." and I was blown away.

Thanks for the information, it was really helpful. I think i'm going to start off by reading the Civil War series. I'm kind of a history buff so I figure something that i'm already interested in would be helpful in collecting. I've also read a couple issues of the series already so I have an idea of what its about Razz.

Heh. Was just going to say that. Civil War does not imply United States Civil War. It is an all out brawl between many of the Marvel heros. And a blast. =P
