WoW Branch?

Post by LeoDeSol on Mon Jan 12, 2009 10:29 am

I know I know.. the game that shall not be named...

Well folks, let's face it. We have lost members to that game, and members who join for other games will continue to play that game. Why should we not have a casual WoW Hammerfist branch. We are a casual guild, and my experience with WoW is that it is still a fairly fun game for the casual player base. My highest level is a 55 Priest and I have been longing for some of WoWs battleground PvP fun. I am a little sick of Warhammer scenarios so I am thinking of reinstating WoW for a little while just to pass the time and get some PvP in. I would love to play under the Hammerfist banner and would be willing to transfer to a server that Hammerfist chooses.

I have no objections to a WoW branch.

However, someone willing to found the guild and GM it is a different story. Founding a new guild in such a well established game would be an uphill battle. Not to say it couldn't be very successful (because we rock!), just saying the person to GM it would need to have a real serious desire and commitment to it.

I will probably never play WoW again but as far as a guild branch goes, I wouldn't care either way. :]

However, I think we already had a poll set up on this once and the majority voted no. I could be wrong.

I think a problem with this is that people are going back to WoW, rather than leaving to try it for the first time. Most probably have an established server, where their characters already are and where they may know people. It may be difficult to get guildies consolidated onto one server to actually play together.

I would think the opposite. My guess would be that a lot of guildies would be willing to transfer at least one character to a Hammerfist guild server (or start a Death Knight) just to play with us casually. The servers are pretty crowded with ques again, which also speaks to the number of players returning to WoW, so if we where to choose a low pop server with new people joining we could also recruit fairly easily I would think.

Another thing HFC has going for it is the type of guild we are. There really are not a ton of guilds like HFC in WoW (or in MMORPGs in general). We attract the right people for a fun and casual experience and a lot of people in WoW are really sick of hardcore play and looking for something more laid back.

I never saw a poll about WoW in general. I looked for it just now and still could not find it. What I would be interested in is a poll to see how many people are HFC members who are either playing WoW today, played WoW and would return with HFC, playing WoW and would not return, or never played WoW but would give it a try with HFC.

The WoW poll thread is in the Games, Consoles and other MMO's section. (There's also an old one in the Polls section, but that's way back from last spring so not really relevant to our current membership.)

I just know the problem when several of us were discussing EQ2 was that we all had our high characters on our own servers and if we were going to go back to a game in which we were established, we wouldn't want to start over. And frankly, I can't afford to pay sub fees right now, much less transfer fees. Maybe others have more disposable income and can; I don't know.

Not trying to be negative, just pointing out why I think it hasn't happened before now. Personally, I won't be playing WoW again unless someone feels like paying the sub fees for me, but maybe there are enough who are now bored with WAR that it could work. It would definitely take a fair bit of work on someone's part though; starting up even a new branch takes quite a bit of effort. Of course, WoW would only be better with the Hammerfists in it!

This is of course just my personal view, but I would be happy to start up again with WoW, if it wasn't WoW.

I had a lv 60 orc warrior that I was playing in a 100 active member guild until the first expansion came out. Then I quit because my guild sploded, and besides that I found I was either:

1) standing around waiting for a group to form so I could do something

or

2) in a group where I was committed to a 2-4 hour instance

(1) is boring, and (2) is just not practical for me. The saving grace of War in my opinion is that I can play in small doses. Scenarios, even RvR can be jumped into and out of as time permits. It's just too bad the implementation has so many problems...

In WoW, if I jumped into something, I was typically expected to fulfill a certain role and if I needed to bow out after an hour it blows it for everyone.

The level grind was also brutal...

Have there been any changes to the above?

Still can be like that. Although with a good group of friends/guild it isn't bad at all. I always got a group together in 10-15 minutes when I wanted to do something.

Lontano wrote:2) in a group where I was committed to a 2-4 hour instance

Unfortunately an instance is still, and will always be, an instance. You should stay in them till you are finished.

Lontano wrote:The level grind was also brutal...

There have been a lot of changes of that particular mechanic. It is still a grind no matter how you look at it, but the quests give a heck of a lot more exp now and you do level significantly faster. I never did mind doing quests and exploring anyways.

I feel the same way. Those transfer fees can add up when you're paying for two accounts (mine and the fiance's).

And I would hate to start over again. It took me almost two years to get my main up to 70. I know that's a lot longer than some take but I quit and did other games for a while.

But hey, you never know. A few people are probably willing to start a branch in WoW (me not included). That is more Brakk's decision than mine though. :B

I had two level 70 toons, the biggest issue was I like to see content and explore but with the instances you really could not get to key areas without a committed group. It was hard to find the 40+ folks that could be available on the same day with key classes, albeit the 20 ish man instances helped it was still a challenge.'

I really would not be one to do the WOW thing again, the economy inflation was pretty bad and while I left my account with around 10K in gold that I earned crafting I just really got burned out on the game. I definately would wish any members good luck out there its still a popular and good game just no longer my speed but there are lots of folks who do like it.
