nVidia drivers and modded .inf files
Here ya go:
Nvidia drivers are based on a system called Unified Driver Architecture
(UDA) which means all nVidia card drivers are using one driver. However
for some reasons, they just remove the support for installing those
drivers for some cards.
By following the steps below and replacing the proper .inf file with
one that supports your card, you can increase your performance
instantly.
It's a 3-step process:
1. Download driver, double click and select extract,
http://downloads.guru3d.com/
2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,
3. Install & reboot.
There are 2 ways to install the driver;
Using Setup.exe (if provided): After replacing old INF with Modded INF, just open Setup.exe and hopefully it will install.
Using 'Have Disk' method (recommended): If somehow Setup fails or there
is no Setup provided with the driver, you have to use this method to
install. You can find very detailed instructions on how to use this
method here (for Windows XP) or here (for Windows Vista)
The .inf files for specific operating systems can be found here:
.inf for Vista 64-bit

.inf for Vista 32-bit

.inf for XP 32-bit

.inf for XP 64-bit

Hope this elaborates as to what ya need to know. Any questions just post/reply here or send a tell in game/guild chat or PM here if ya like!

Re: nVidia drivers and modded .inf files
All went "well" . . . ie, the drivers are installed, and the next step is to test them in-game. I did hit a couple of minor glitches, so I'll post them here to help any who follow:
1. I downloaded the driver and .inf files for my system (32-bit XP).
2. Double-clicking (or right-clicking) on the driver package produced no "Extract" button . . . so I created a new folder, hit "Run" instead, told the package to use that folder for the files, and let the installer run. It failed, of course, when it discovered I did not have any hardware matching the drivers in the package. (making your own new folder is probably unnecessary - you could just allow the package to create the folder it will create on its own.)
3. I allowed the "install" to cancel, then scanned the folder looking for an .inf file. I could not find one lol. So I decided to just dump the new .inf file into the folder . . . sure enough, the move detected a duplicated filename. I allowed the overwrite. Old eyes or little patience I guess
4. Found setup.exe in that folder, double-clicked . . . Setup ran to conclusion.
Thanks for the help. Clearly, anyone who can install drivers can do this given the links above.

Hey - FYI I have an Nvidia 8800 Ultra, and seemed to be crashing alot less with the 177.40 drivers from guru3d...in case it helps anyone.
