Which video card to run 1920x1200?

Post by StockySnail on Tue May 13, 2008 4:59 pm

Is anybody running the beta at 1920x1200 with detail of High and getting frame rates of 30+ average? If so, which video card are you running?

I'm running with those settings in closed beta with an average of about 16fps. I'm sure it will be a little faster with the release version as it won't have all the debug code and dx10 will work and the 64 bit and sli optimizations should be working (not sure if they are in the closed beta).

    cpu: e8400 3ghz
    os vista x64 sp1
    video: 8800gts x2 sli'ed
    hd: raptor
    ram: 8gb ddr800

I would wait for the release for the following reason...

    1) Optimized Client
    2) Dual core support
    3) X10 Support
    4) All the debugging code gone

Those four items above will net you at least 20FPS

yeah that's a ridiculously powerful rig. I run a single 8800GTS(G92,) at a lower res, mind you, but full settings I cap at around 65ish fps in open beta... So i think you may just be trying to run with a single video card as the game doesn't have SLI support as of yet (at least to my knowledge,) and if those are the 320GTS's you're really running short of texture memory in order to run at that high resolution. Once SLI is enabled you'll be fine though.

    /agree

I would just wait and see how the game runs with your current setup before you decide on an upgrade.

If i were you i wouldn't even consider messing with any of the 9xxx series cards. Just hold tight for the new ones that are supposed to be coming down the pipes in the next couple of months.

    newest closed beta results

Post by StockySnail on Wed May 14, 2008 12:26 am

I tried the newest closed beta tonight and it ran much better. I was getting 35+ fps in the instanced area from taking the boat and 25ish in the city at night. Quite the improvement. Too bad my necromancer was bugged and crashed the client when loading. I had to use a different guy Sad Should be playable at the crazy 1920x1200 resolution at max settings for release! Hopefully new whql drivers come out as there hasn't been any for the 8800 for vista 64 since the beginning of the year. I agree about not even bothering with the 9x series. I've been reading a lot of info on video cards lately since I just upped my rig for this game. Looks like my $110x2 8800gts 320mb sli'ed is going to kick ass. I couldn't believe new egg had such a powerful card for only $110. I know the vram isn't the largest, but I couldn't pass up that deal. So far I can run anything at 1920x1200 except Crysis. Crysis is rediculous though. Hopefully the new nvidia cards have a gig or more of vram and are able to use that memory properly.

I ran the Open Beta with 2 8800 GTX but SLI turned off since the client is not SLI supported. 1900x1200 on high and was getting an average of 45+ FPS. My rig details are in my sig.
