Athena Power AP-MPS3ATX55E 550W Micro PS3 / ATX V2.2 / EPS-12V Nickel Coating Power Supply Support most of Dell and HP Systems - Retail

I assume the above power system will work with this card.

    EVGA 512-P3-N845-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) KO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

I already have ordered 4 gigs of RAM.

Tomorrow I will purchase these items in preperation of AoC.

If you know or think these are not compatible, please tell me to go see a technition at Fry's or Best Buy. I have spent all day looking and working with you fine people. I have learned a bit, and realized that micro atx's cases suck ass.

If you object let me know so I don't blow $350 thanks.

That power supply *might* not have the amperage for a video card like. I'm going off memmory but I recall the 8800GTS needing at least 26A on the +12V rail. That power supply does have dual rails (13A x 2 = 26A total) but you'll be running the bare minium. In a PSU's case, its better to have more then not enough. If price is the issue, I would suggest looking in to Ultra brand PSUs (pretty sure they're available in the States). Just try to keep in mind that the wattage rating is important as well; most HDDs for example use an average 60-80W on their own so take in to account what you're putting in the computer. I'm running a 1000W w/ 60A dual rails so with something like that you're sure never to run short on juice Razz
    ... Just my two cents.

Like he said, it should work and from the looks of your case, it should be able to handle both, but you will be pushing the PSU to it's limits voltage wise. Not a bad thing, but just be aware.

fingers crossed hope everything goes well for you

i would install in this order however

ram and power supply should be the first 2 not sure that the order matters but i would not install the both at the same time, just do one, make sure the machine posts then do the other

    gfx card last

by installing one component at a time you ensure that each part is working

also mobo's and ram have compatibility issues, do your homework and if you have one get your mobo's book out some boards expect ram in different configurations some have problems with various ram timings etc

That PSU is not going to cut it. 13amps on the +12 line? The 8800GTS 512 requires atleast 26amps. (just noticed it is a dual line psu. so that adds to the total amps but tbh that would still worry me.)

Not to mention Athena psu's aren't great to begin with.

I'm gonna go online and see if I can find you a micro atx PSU that will work.

-well that was quick. I doubt you will find any micro atx PSU that will handle a video card like that. You can take a chance but I wouldn\'t. The fact is the card requires 26-28 amps to run properly.

IMO you should be either giving up on that video card or buying a standard ATX case and PSU.

This case is a mid tower Micro ATX and it will house a standard PSU: $89.99 with a $30 mail in rebate bringing the total end cost to $59.99
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163058

Now you can pick up a good PSU to go with it like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004

This is going to cost more in the long run but it will work.

I just did a ton of research on the 8800 gt card, and 24a on the +12v rail is enough....UNLESS you are running a bunch of aux fans and other power intensive peripherials.

My rig at work has a 480W PSU and it powers the 8800gts as well as the 8800 gt just fine (not at the same time mind you). It is more important to make sure that the PCI-E bus on your motherboard IS NOT version 1.0a.

I downloaded his motherboard manual and it did not specify. I know it is version 1.0 but I don't now which rev it is. If it is 1.0a the card may not work at all.

EVGA said it is backwards compatible. I guess that is there standard line. Did you read something that says it will not work with 1.0a?

I've heard of issues in some cases but I do know that 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.0 so you should be ok.

those have nothing at all to do with it. We are refering to your PCIe x16 slot.

You are welcome for the nifty little program.

Louchar thanks for the nifty little program!

I also missed your big post a few back on the power supply not going to cut it. When I was checking the EVGA website in the FAQ section they recommended 400 watts to power the cards if using a light rig without all the extra's.

I am not a tech person so.. Being that this card has met the watt requirement am I still screwed with the Amp side of things?

    i say

if you have it and the store will take it back opened (most do)

    then install it and see

but find out (from others here) and be aware of signs of your pc not getting enough power, also be aware of the dangers of running a system without enough power

    gl to you

To be honest with you, I think that's a smart move...

For another $50 you could get a new ATX case that will do everything you need to do and more.... The PSU is definitely a driving factor of todays PC's. Getting it passed the wife is the hard part. Razz
