Here is some information I've found for framerates. Mind you I haven't been able to test these yet, but check them out and let me know if you get positive results.

How To: Fix the frame rate in AoC. With Black Screen fix.

While at the Login Screen, hold CTRL and hit ~ (the Tilde key)

This will bring up Alot of Options!

we are worried about one in general witch Funcom has not added to the Regular Video options.
    -----------------------------------------------
in the Top Right you will see a option called * Change Device * click it.
at the bottom of the new options menu that pop'd up is Vertical Sync *Off is default*

Turn the Vertical sync to On, then click ok.

This will dump you to windows and reload you into the game.

Click Yes, i want to keep these settings.

    Enjoy!

durring the PvP weekend it took my friends PC witch is nice and has a 8800GT in it from 1.5FPS to 60-30 consistant!

*Note!* this has to be done Every time you Launch the game! the settings are not saved after you quit the game!

this is why i think funcom should add it to the Regular Video options. i go from 32FPS watching the opening cut sceen to 55 solid!

*Note* if you are getting more then 60 FPS this should not apply to you unless you are getting horizonal tearing.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    *Edit*
If you launch and have a black screen!?!?!?!?

in the IGNbeta folder you will find a simple config icon.
    Click it
Change the Resolution down 2 settings. save and relaunch.*Remember what setting it was!*
At this point the game will look like Crap! its ok.
when the game is at the loading screen go into the settings/Video
put the Resolution Back to what you had before the change.
    click accept then ok.

You can also just make it go windowed mode then make it Fullscreen once ingame.

Grats you just fixed the issue.

*NOTE* The Open Beta is not in Dx10! Horrible crash for those who try.

i must thank everyone who has help'd in this thread.
    /bow

DX10 will not be implemented for open beta, it will only be availble for retail.

If selected one of three things will happen

    1. crash

    2. revert back to dx9

    3. nothing

edit: oops i didn't read the part where you said you had a 7800. the 7 series and below do not support dx10, you have to have a 8 or 9 series or the latest ATI equivalents and vista

Another Great Section for anyone wanting to know about Great stuff!

When it comes to graphics cards- it's kind of like having a 426 HEMI engine. You kind of need to lay on the pedal once in a while to get the best performance out of it.

Personally for people, I think the best guide you can reference and learn a little is:
http://forums.slizone.com/index.php?showtopic=8316 . It might be a little much for some people- actually might be a little hell of a lot for average Joe user- but it is a great guide. Feel free to check it out and also some of the forum posts there about Nvidia cards. To really explain how putting GPU's underload to improve performance, I would have to go under the whole concept of how it all comes together and really- the guide explains it better than I could. The best thing I can say is- it works very much similar to way Multicore-CPU's work and I wouldn't be surprised to see the next generation of video cards to have multicore GPU's.

About being a bug, I can't say it is a bug other than a lack of support in the drivers. Nvidia did a craptastic job in drivers especially with SLi and Vista release.

I am running an AMD Phenom 9500 quad core 2.2, vista 32 bit, 3 gig ram, and 8500GT, and I have 4 fps on high, and 16 on medium. I just tried taking the resolution down and lowering the shader and I got an amazing 25fps. This is just because it is a beta right? I checked the official forums and the answers for fps problems were all over the place, anyone have words of wisdom?

You can try pressing Ctrl+~ at the login screen to bring up more advanced options for video and turning on Vertical Sync. Someone posted about this helping to increase your FPS dramtically.

Cannot wait to try this as I was at or below 20FPS in most every zone I went to sometimes as low as 4FPS, but am thinking it will be better once the game launches.

If you are trying the vertical sync fix, it might not work at all if you have an LCD monitor. Vertical sync sync's up the frame rate with the refresh rate of your monitor, and LCDs do not have refresh rates per se, they have response times. If you look at your properties for your monitor, I bet it gives a refresh rate of 60hz. 60hz for LCD is way different then 60hz for CRT.
I tried using vert sync on and it had no effect on my frame rate. I'm going to take a shot in the dark here, but I am guessing that most frame rate issues are caused by shaders and your settings for them.

I'm not telling you not to try anything that could help you, but I bet if you select their preset "Medium" setting for Video under the options menu, and then use ctrl+~ to tweak it a bit, you might have better luck.

Oh, and on the blue screen menu not wanting to exit after clicking OK or CANCEL: I found that if I alt tab out of the game, wait about a minute or so, then alt tab back in, it closes.

I was getting pretty low frame rates and it would freeze for like 5-10 seconds at a time. Then I switched into windows and shut down my antivirus (AVG free edition). It wasn't running a scan at the time but I guess it may be set to scan every time a file is accessed. I'll have to look into that. With it off though I'm between 30-60 in the city at the low setting and the highest res.

This is pretty common with most any antivirus software, and most people will tell you to disable your av proggie before booting a CPU intensive game. I remember trying to run Norton (a notorious resource hog) while running Battlefield 2 on my old computer. I think the game just sorta laughed at me when I launched.

I chucked Norton when I upgraded my computer, and am currently trying new software. I used to use AdAware 2007, Spybot S&D, and Norton INet Security 2007. Kept me really safe, but Norton was a hog, and AdAware and Spybot are no longer considered very good software in the modern day. I'm currently trying ZoneAlarm, which is said to not only be top-notch protection, but resource-light as well. So far, it's really not "resource light" (seems to keep an unreasonable chunk of my memory busy); whether or not it's good protection remains to be seen.

As far a a firewall, I've been using Sygate Personal Firewall (Free edition) for a couple years now. Seems pretty "light" and has done a good job for me.
