Hory Shinto!! - Browser Hijacked

I am sorry for any gramar related failures in my attempt to explain what has happened. As I am well on my way to spiritual oneness with the gods of hops and barley. All hail the porcelain GOD!


So I awoke this morning to push the great button o'fun....(power button) And what greats me? Not the windows screen... not a blue screen... but a black screen with the words your C: windows/something/something is fucked! Hmmm. I say to myself, whatever could have happened in the night while I slept?

So I grab the ol' OS disk and pop it in for the quick repair, right? HEH! The 'ell you say!! At first my puter would not see that I had internet.. Then after a click and scroll once again I have internet.. All is well? Hell no!!! I then attempt to jump on the site here and check the boards!! NO NO NO! Bad me for even thinking such a thing!

When I attempted to rush off to another site Explorer would shit a golden twinkie and start opening page after blank page of failure! Sooooooooooooo, after figuring out that I need to set whatever page I need to my home page in order to see it, I finally arrive at the Microsoft home page. So I go to grab the updates I so badly need and what do you know!! NO NO NO! They will not DL to my poor sick puter! I am about one beer shy and a phone call to India for tech support from scrapping the entire thing and rebooting my OS!! Any suggestions would be more than welcome before I drop the almighty boomstick.

1) Start your computer in safe mode with networking.
2) Run adaware if you have it installed.
3) Run a complete virus scan using your protection program.
4) Install Firefox: Set your start page to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-2.0.0.14&os=win〈=en-US
5) Start IE and install Firefox. (If you can't because your computer wont cooperate, get Firefox off a friends computer or off the computer at a library or something).
6) Shut down IE
7) NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER TOUCH IE AGAIN!
8 ) Start up Firefox.
9) Download and install NoScript addon for Firefox.
10) If you couldn't run Adaware in step 2 above, then download, install, and run Adaware.
11) Restart your box with the f8 key held down. Select boot last good configuration.
12) Run adaware again.
13) Run a complete virus scan using your protection program again.
14) Use Firefox to browse internet
15) NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER TOUCH IE AGAIN!


Hope this helps... if you have to reinstall everything from scratch, please at least follow steps 7 and 15 above. You will live a longer happier life...

Ya Firefox has alot more security features that MSIE crap. Though I still use the crap while here at work haha.

I had to lay down the mighty mighty boomb stick of c:format... All is well though, I had a ton of ish on my HD that needed to go anywho. I did follow directions 7-15, and thanks alot for it! My system is running a 100 times better now! I just have to wait the 4 hours for AoC OB to dl again and all will be well! Thanks again!!!

Firefox + NoScript = So much win it's hard to fathom...sucks you had to re-install your whole OS man...that shit takes forever by the time you get done installing all your stuff.

These are the wisest words you'll hear here. IE pretty much hates you. Seriously. It'll sleep with your girlfriend, jack your car and trash it, and sneak into your house while you sleep to leave your freezer open so your ice cream gets all melty.

Use Firefox. Use Opera, if you must. But only use IE for downloading Microsoft patches.
