Looking for: fun movies to watch that I might not have heard of

Post by Evadrepus on Mon Jan 19, 2009 9:23 am

As I've mentioned in LoTRO kinchat, I travel A LOT for business, and at this point I actually have my own personal room at the hotel. While I am doing college work, it doesn't take me more than an hour or so a night. Thus, I am a rabid watcher of movies. My Netflix account is a loss-leader, I'm sure, since I go through 4 movies a week+, and have watched almost every Instant View one they have (btw, a lot of them suck badly, both in quality of movie and quality of display).

I'm down to 10 movies in my queue, and dread running out and being forced to surf the night away, or even worse, watch TV. Therefore, I am reaching out to see if anyone can suggest some good movies to add into my queue for watching.

I typically like comedies, because after spending the day in Corporate America, a little brain-dead work is good. I can totally go for a good action movie or even some documentary, if it's good (Michael Moore makes a better movie than I'd thought). So....any suggestions?

I say go with the classics.....Monty Python "Holy Grail" Mel Brooks "Blazing Saddles" and "History of the World Part I". Probably seen them...but definitely worth another watch. For moronic humor, I gotta go with "Super Troopers" "Ace Ventura" and "Me, Myself and Irene".

Office Space is awesome true...but the others....it should be said Attius is a bit of a "B" movie fan. He made me watch "Bloodrayne". Nuff said.

B movies aren't too bad. I have Down Periscope and The Super Dave Movie in my movie bag as an emergency case...hard to get much lower than that and still be entertaining.

and see I have seen and laughed at both of those mobies... (get it moBies..)

Equilibriam is cool, I am will not say that bloodrayne was any good but slutty hot chicks kicking ass always worth watching maybe with the sound off..

Of course I assume you have classics covered like reservoir dogs, and the original El mariachi the prequel to desperado?

    You could start here:

    http://hammerfistclan.darkbb.com/town-square-general-public-discussion-guests-welcome-f51/offbeat-netflix-suggestions-thread-t3995.htm?highlight=netflix

You're probably way over me if you're going through 4 per week, but I see a lot of really offbeat stuff from the international arena that's very good. Always happy to post suggestions if you like anything from the first thread.

I like some of M7's picks.
Since you said you liked comedy and I was thinking of an older classic you might not have seen, I was going to say Buckeroo Bonzai.

Big Trouble in Little China is also good, but I am thinking you might have already seen it.

Try the old Pink Pather movies.

Anything Mel Brooks or Monty Pythom should also be worth watching. Again I am thinking you have seen most of them as well. I found Spaceballs to be quite humerous and filled with some great one liners.

Dumb and Dumber - so bad it is actually funny.
Silverado - a western, good movie and has a degree of humor to it as well.
Kelly's Heros - war movie but funny and with an all star cast.
The Princess Bride - Kids movie, but still funny.
    Schrek
    Monsters Inc

About all I can think of for now.

    Meet the Feebles

    Meet the Feebles

You will laugh, cry and go WTF? Mostly the first and last. And because of the horrible, horrible, so horrible they are hilarious memories you have you will try to make as many other people watch it as possible.

Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) directed it...

I know you asked for movies, but you can get TV shows also, and I have been on this Two and a Half Men kick for the last few weeks and I just can't get enough. That really is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen, and that's saying a lot. Nothing feels forced in the show and the dialogue is just miles above a lot of comedies out there today. Has a classic two man team feel (Abbot and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Ralph and Ed) with a good supporting cast around them. I'm just thankful that they have all these TV shows on DVD now so I can catch up. I've only been watching the show for one season, but I've gone through seasons 1 and 2 over the last two weekends.
