nVidia is using AoC as a showcase for their cards, so I'm thinking nVidia is a safe bet as far as compatability is concerned, driver-wise. That's been my card since forever, too. I have an 8800 gtx and it smokes - the 8800's are cheaper now cause the 9000 series is out.

    Cheers!

Definitely the way to go... The question is if you want to stick to an ATI chipset or don't mind switching to nVidia. Price to performance wise, I don't think you can beat the 8800 GT OC.

i have the 8800 gtx and it will work fine. If your considering an 8800 though make sure you ahve a pci-e slot and two slots(space wise) avaliable as they are big.

Hmm... that's a good question... Usually pre-builts are very tight inside the case. The 8800 series is a big honking card. You really only need a PCI Express 16 slot for the card to function, but if there isn't enough space on either side of the slot, you may be in trouble.

I know Dell sells systems with the 8800 card now, but to make sure, I would go to the Dell website and enter your system id. They will be able to tell you for sure if it will fit.

I've got a 8800GTS OC (G92) on the way, if you haven't already ordered, take a look at it, newegg has it for low 200s.

If you're looking into a 8800GT, the 8800GTS G92 is also worth looking at. It's only a few dollars more and it's only like 17 more dollars then the GT (according to one overzealous reviewer on newegg.) More stream processors means more filtering, post processing and such. The differences diminish at high resolutions, but it's a decent improvement for only $17.

mine 1152x768 the main difference between the GTS G92 and the GT is how they handle AA, so if you aren't AA obsessed, it really doesn't matter.
