Q) What MMO do you currently have the most interest in playing?
A) Warhammer. I've been playing since closed beta, and while I have some issues with the feel of the game, it's getting better and I think it's going to be a blast.
Q) Have you read our Code of Conduct and Forum Rules?
A) Yes
Q) Are you at least 18 years of age? [yes, no, actual age is optional]
A) My first computer was an Atari 800.. which means I'm waaay past 18.
Q) Have you read at least one of our example applications? [this is highly recommended]
A) Yes
Q) Do you have any relatives or friends currently in the guild, or were you recruited by someone? If so, who?
A) No
Q) Name: [planned in game/forum name]
A) Micas - it's a name I used for a D&D character I started when I was 10 and have used it for gaming ever since. I have no idea what it means.
Q) Gender: [female, male]
A) Male
Q) What region do you live in? [City and State is fine.]
A) Dallas Texas
Q) How did you hear about us: [friend, another member, forum, google, other mmo's, etc]
A) I saw your advert on Warhammer Alliance and it looked like a good fit.
Q) Are you currently in any other AoC, LOTRO, or Warhammer guilds?
A) No. I am, however, the GM of a WoW guild called The Dwarven Alliance on Daggerspine. At our peak, we had something like 180 members. I do plan to continue with WoW just for arena, which doesn't take much time. Most of my gaming time will be in Warhammer.
Q) Have you applied to any other guilds?
A) No
Q) We like to have fun, how's your sense of humor? Not so good? Good? You're a standup comedian you say?
A) I tend to have a dry sense of humor, and pick my spots rather than trying to be the life of the party.. think Stephen Wright. Why are the ABC's in that order? Is it because of the song?
Q) What other MMO's have you played if any: [Acquired a few skills from some other games eh? Tell us about them]
A) I started multi-player gaming with Dwango (remember that?). I played FPS's hard-core, qualified and competed in the '95 Doom 2 World Championships in Seattle getting creamed by Thresh (of Firing Squad fame) in the first round. I was considered the best map 1 player in the world at the time.. was rather proud of that. I also played Team Fortress Classic with Clan Erinyes, having the world #1 ranking for a 10 month stretch (no losses). At that time in my "gaming life", I was a really hard-core player, but I've mellowed with age and real life things are far more important now.
I burned out on the twitch games, and tried Ultima Online. I just couldn't get into it, so just meandered around different genres without any real competition beyond some Counter Strike pubs.. I've played WoW from day 1, working with a great group of leaders to take a bunch of casuals through as much PvE content as possible. At our peak, we had 2 40-man raids clearing MC and BWL weekly, plus a raid in TAQ and Naxx. Those dungeons were a bit too hard-core for us to clear completely, be we did really well for not being hard core.
TBC was really awful from a raiding point of view, but we cleared a decent amount of PvE - but at this point most members are just casually playing without much raiding. I enjoy the arena though. The competition is fun.
Q) What makes you want to join us over some of the other guilds? [let us know!]
A) Hammerfist looks a lot like the environment we created for our WoW guild. I like a focus on having a good time and building a nice on-line social environment, while making a serious effort to be competative. We've been together for 4 years now, and I imagine that we'll always have those on-line relationships, but the guild isn't moving into Warhammer in sufficient numbers for us to do our own thing, hence I'm looking for a new home that is much like my old one. Some of my mates might also be interested in joining Hammerfist as well. We've talked about it, and it looks like some of the other guys are going to play it by ear.
I still have a competetive streak (left over from my FPS days), and when I play, I take it seriously, but I'm just not super hard-core and thus the guilds that had a laundry list of "rules and requirements" were instant turn-offs to me. I might get busy IRL, and not be able to game a bunch, but other times I'll do 20+ hours a week and be very focused on doing it well.
I guess just having some balance is the key for me. If the guild environment is more focused on socializing than on the game itself, we might not be a good fit. But if performance in the game is valued, and the social environment a bonus, then I think I'd be an asset.
Q) Please tell a little about yourself, aside from gaming. Perhaps some hobbies, about your work, favorite story etc.
A) I'm a software engineer by trade, working for the federal government. I get to "work from home" a lot, which tends not to be particularly productive. I even have a "Secret" level security clearance! That's your assurance that I'm not an e-sociopath.
^^ - example of dry sense of humor..
As for hobbies.. I'm a really bad guitar player, and have a history of playing 80's metal in exchange for free beer. I'm a big fan of heavy music, and if I could trade places with anyone in the world, it would be Trent Reznor.
I'm also very into sports.. and I'm convinved that the Cowboys will win the Super Bowl this season.. assuming Romo doesn't do something really dumb again. I also had the privaledge of being at the 2001 World Series games when I lived in Phoenix. After having lived through countless sporting disapointments in Arizona history (Rosebowl, Suns, the joke that is this Cardinals), it was glorious.
I'm also a big sports car nut. I'm saving up for a 911 turbo.. half way there! Actually.. I'm going to blow my retirement to get one because it's worth it, and I can always survive on ramen noodles just like I did in college.
Ugh.. all of that sounded like I'm competing in a beauty pagent... and yes, if I win I plan to bring peace and harmony to the entire world.
