    FPS Empty FPS

Post by Hect Thu May 22, 2008 3:37 pm

This probley has been asked a lot but I have poor FPS.

I have an AMD Athalon dual core, Nividia 8400 GS, 3 gigs of ram, and Vista 32 bit.

I only get about 10 FPS at the most and this is on low settings. Is there something that I just am missing?

Its all about the video card. This game really pushes the graphics envelope.

I would HIGHLY recommend getting a NVIDIA 8800 gt 512. The cards have been dropping in price almost weekly.

Here is a list of cards @ NewEgg:

    Oh...and my recommendations would be:
    1) eVga dual slot
    2) Gigabyte
    3) MSI

yes, it sems that I too have this going on. seems like little fps gremlins are kicking it inside my pc. giving it up for wrecking my gameplay, these little monsters have to have a weakness. my shoddy specs (and don't laugh at my cpu)

p4 3.0, nvidia 8600 gt, 2k ram. i know thats not much of a system, but...

I get 10-20 fps and mostly more on the 10 side. in big areas and cramped dungeounionish areas, that is. however, I do see a few hours here and there where it jumps to around 20-30 pretty steady. this makes me think it is the server.

i tried the tips, like the vMemory page file or whatever, suggested settings for my card, defrag, chkdsk... still that did not help.

even if I go down to low settings all around, same damn fps. i know my specs are weak, but why is it playiing at 20-30fps (VERY good for me) for hours then all of a sudden drop like that for hours? and settings and system tweaks have no effect? anyone have any idea what i'm talking about?

This game was built around the dual cores, and im sure thats giving you trouble there, I believe xp (assuming your on xp) will register 3.2 gigs of ram, so you could upgrade your ram by a gig with little money output if your looking for cheap but helpful solutions.

Also since your pushing your rig hard, its important (and alot of people dont realise this) that you keep your tower in a well ventilated area, and you keep it clean!

whens the last time you cleaned your fans and box? your fps drops could be a result of overheating.

Heh kind of funny off note ive been fighting with the administrator at my work that the computers need to be cleaned regularly, and he wont go for it, last week one finally melted itself. haha. eat it.

I got it running and the core temp (system idling) was 79 degrees celcious.

I have an AMD Athalon dual core, Nividia 8400 GS, 3 gigs of ram, and Vista 32 bit.

I had the same issues with my 8400 GS and the same processor type (mine = AMD Athlon 4200+ x2). I got the 8800 GT OC 512 and my FPS outside tops out at 45. Inside dungeons I can stay around 50-60 with no issues at all. Though the only thing that is really getting on my last nerve is the skipping and two second freezes. Mind you I only get freezes outside, inside this thing screams!!! The only bad thing with that is that dungeons are set for groups, so I have to deal with the skipping and freezing in order to solo.

Honeslty man, go get a 8800 GT it seems to be the only option for a semi-instant fix.

I kept having those same issues as you Scripture13, except I also had that issues of the game locking up on me. Hunted down the 169.44 driver and so far I haven't had anymore issues. Tried every driver I could think of from everywhere I could think of.
