Hello everyone, AoC is crashing 'sometimes' whenever I zone. I have the latest Nvidia driver for my 8800gt, and fps never drops below 50 even in OT, so frankly i'm not sure what's going on or if there is a workaround for this.

My comp specs if you think it might have anything to do with this...but I doubt it:

also I have a e8400 (intel duo wolfdale)...had to buy it from somewhere other than newegg cause they never have any.

Ok, after trying to figure out if it is my hardware, i finally decided to look at vista 32 (which I should have before, but I'm not the most computer saavy person). I found this article http://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/qaID.asp?tip=5551

So, long story short, I will be trying this out and see if my crashes are due to memory leakes; if they are, maybe jumping up from 2-3 on what I allow AoC to access on my ram will be sufficient.

What kind of crashes? After the latest patch, there are times where the game gets 'stuck' when Loading/Updating Content. This problem only happened recently for me...has been fine since release.

I'm having the exact same problem, and you and I have similar rigs, Zambra. I'll be curious to see what resolution you get from this. However, I use WinXP, so it doesn't look like the thread you posted will help me.

I remember this happening early in the game with some people, and I believe they worked around it by disabling audio before they zoned. I'm looking for the link now, but I am pretty sure that worked for them.

ok, the workaround didn't seem to help at first. However, while I would typically get booted every 2-3 times zoning, I have only been booted once in about 5 hours so far, so I do think it worked somewhat. One thing I have noticed is that the game will freeze for a few seconds and an error report is sent, but no crashes (will check error reports in detail to see if they are due to memory leaks).

I'll also check out the audio thing...I don't ever use game audio anyways: either listen to media player or watching food network/toon network (adult swim).

The fact that it improved your problem almost certainly points to a memory leak issue. By increasing your memory allotment you've basically given your system more time until the leak accumulates enough waste to crash out the application.

I think this is something Funcom need to fix internally. It's a failure in their coding of the application, so until they fix it (or some intrepid gamer isolates what's cauing the problem and tells all of us) we're sort of boned. One thing I find is that I can usually predict when the leak is starting to get bad. It usually only takes me a few seconds to zone; as I play, this time slowly creep up. When it takes 10-15 seconds or longer, I know it's time to re-launch, because the *next* time I zone I'm either going to crash, or hang for anywhere from 2-5 minutes. (And then my game gets wonky; I clip through the scenery, fall through bridges, etc.)
