go with an 8800GT or a GTS512, if you can afford it the GTX is great.

Im holding off for the new ATI 4850 and 4870s that should be out the 16th of this month. Depending on how they play out they could be an amazing deal.

The pricing is somewhat confusing but it appears that the 4850 will be around $230.

Nvidia is also launching new cards in the middle of this month but these are going to be around $600.

At any rate, it might be worth it to just wait it out and see what these new cards provide and if nothing else what the fallout will be for an 8800GT or 3870, both strong cards.

I know it does not support SLI yet, but I run 2 8800GT, all maxed out, the game runs very well.

depending on how old your mobo is it may not take the card if it doesn't have a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot as I've been told the cards aren't backwards compatible.

for the new system I'm building I think I'm going with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127329 x2.

That is a great card. Same one I use and it performs very well.

If you can wait, I would try to hold out on buying a card for a few weeks. When the new Nvidia cards come out it may help to lower the prices of the current cards alittle.

PCI express 2.0 is backwards compatible with the exception of a couple
of revisions (1.0 and 1.1a i believe, all others are fine)

and I'm currently running 2 9800GTX's. They are basically the 8800GTS 512MB's with higher clocks, and can outperform the 8800Ultra (WITHOUT anti-aliasing) I'm very happy with them so far Very Happy
