    C++ help Empty C++ help

    Post by Probie Wed May 28, 2008 11:45 am

    Any of you programmers know of a pretty decent online guide/forums for C++?

    I am currently taking a CS210 class online, looking for a place that might give me different insight on how to do things then my book. I'd rather take a traditional class, but work doesn't permit that kind of time off during the day. So I am trying to "teach myself" (or at least it feels like it at times) this.

    I have come across a few sites that give some pretty good advice, but asking people that do this or use this language for what they look to for advice, just seems more logical to me then using what I think is good. Very Happy

    Thanks to anyone in advance if they know of a good site.

    http://www.codeproject.com/

    This is where I always go if I need an example of how to do something. I would try and find some small applications, download the source code, compile and run it. For me, its easier to get in and code it than the read it from a book.

    Is this your first programming class? If so, I would look at some C courses first. C will help you understand the principals of programming easier than C++. C is a more of a procedural language, but it helps you understand the program flow. C++ is more for object oriented programming, which can be some what difficult to understand if you don't have the basics down...such as understanding how procedures/functions work, scope of variables and methods, etc.

    Hope this helps...

    Thanks Shadow, Much appreciated. I'll have to take a look at the C tutorials a little bit also, see if that helps a tad more. As for learning with the code and not from the book, I'm the same way.

    Thanks again, I hadn't come across that site yet.
