ATI low frame rate new findings, any ideas?

Post by Delarey on Thu May 22, 2008 8:30 am

Ok here are my testing findings from last night... I did a complete cleanout or the registry, installed driver 8.5 and stopped all non-essential services. None of this changed a damn thing. But then I found something interesting...

If I went from full screen to windowed, my frame rates doubled...
Then they would decrease over the next 30-45 seconds as I moved around back to my usual 15fps

So I went back to full screen, and it happened again, in Full screen, my frame rates once again doubled, then slowly went back to my usual 12-15.

This was repeatable every time, in any zone... But what does it tell us?

i'm no expert but doesnt the gfx card kinda refresh when you switch

a more direct question would be

does the gfx dump its memory and reload whenever you switch from windowed to full, if so then that would explain why you have alot of fps and then over time it dumps down as things get in the memory and stay in the memory

i'm an idiot when it comes to these things so this probably isnt of any use, sorry

Yeah, I know some stuff but not tons. I have spent hours researching, on vent with helpful guild members and this is the first breakthrough of sorts. There are tons of ATI users on the official forums with the same problem. scratch
