Post by Leonidiz on Sat May 17, 2008 1:59 pm

Well I have been doing some researching and wanted to know if anyone see's anything wrong with the build I put together. If anything could be a big improvement for little more money or any cost saving I could do. I have been readind and looking at other people's builds and have gone off theres a bit. I want this to be a gaming pc only. Any sugestions are appreciated.thanks.

Leo, that is 95% the exact computer I just built.

The only issue I have with it, is that the 900 case is SUPER LOUD. And I mean loud. Awesome airflow and ability to overclock, but the fans even on low are a bit too noisy. I have a noise reduction headset, so it doesn't bother me at all.

I went with the Corsair Dominator 8500 series to get the 1066 clock speed on my ram. Other than that, we have identical builds.

Oh... Forgot to mention, you might want to get a secondary SATA hard drive. 150gig doesn't go far especially with Vista. I went Raptor for my OS main drive, and then a WD 750 for by secondary.

Let me know if you want any additional information on the products...

Do yo know any other case that is as good but less noisy? My custom one now is loud and it bugs the crap out of me.
Then im not sure if i should go with 1 8800gt or 2 or one card thats better then both other choices?
Thanks for the info on the memory and the hd.. will definitly be getting 2 hd's.

My friend has an antec 900 and I don't consider it to be loud, but everbody has a different threshold of what is comfortable/annoying. I purchased the Antec 900 for my desktop, and its nice... i don't have anything in it yet though =(
I have hooked the power supply up to the fans to kind of get an idea of what it will be like, but it will be louder once my graphics cards go in... Also, if you want to give water cooling a thought, that will almost cancel out the noise from your system, however, it will be more expensive

Yea I know some people in guild have the case and love it and I have heard good reviews about it else where, so Ill prolly get that and deal with the noise. Now with water cooling I have always been a little nervous about putting water in my pc,lol. But exactly what are the perks with water cooling? Besides being silent is there a big difference in the temps? Is there a upkeep ya have to do on the water and what not. Really have no clue about it will have to research it.

Ok... First off, let me tell you something you probably already know... IMA NOOB!

The noise I was hearing was from the Zalman heatsink. I connected the optional fan control and turned it to low. The case is definitely much quieter now and I would highly recommend it. When the fan control is not connected it runs at full speed which is definitely audible.

So stick with the 900 if you haven't already. If you want a quieter cooler, check out the new Arctic Freezer. I've heard really good things about it too. However, if you want max airflow, the Zalman is hard to beat.
