Forgive me Brakk, but I slipped into my old "Recruiter hat." LOL

I was wondering, looking through the apps, and the follow up replies, within the first five comments there is usually one, or more, posts stating "tell us more about yourself." and it got me thinking. What if we added a question, or modified the "Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?" question.

A couple ideas:

-What would you do when the power suddenly went out in your house, and you couldn't log into the game?

-What is the dumbest thing you've ever said to a boss/coworker?

-If you could be any one of King Aurthur's knights from the Monty Python movie "Search for the Holy Grail," whom would you choose, and why? (Sorry, I can't help it, I love my Python...take that as you will! )

-or-
(modified question)
-Tell us a little bit about yourself outside the gaming world!

I agree with the idea Collosia's going for here. We end up asking so many of our applicants to "tell us more about yourself *outside* of gaming" that we might want to consider revamping the app to reinforce the notion that were not just about gaming. As Coll once put (in I believe his first ever "official" post here, which also happened to be a subtle dig at me ), many of our app's responses are one-liners because so many of our app's questions can be answered with one line.

Maybe we might want to consider having members suggest three questions, and after a few days you (Brakk) can pick your favorites and revamp the app a little? We all want to know more about the personality of our recruits, so let's just demand it of them in the app. I'll start:

1. Tell us a story (funny, sad, or otherwise) about yourself that has absolutely nothing to do with gaming.

2. What do you do for a living?
2a. Cool! What's that like?

3. If you could have any superpower, which one would you pick and why?

agreed. 3 seemingly random questions would provide pretty good insight towards a person's personality.

I'm all for this. Now let's keep them questions rolling in and we'll pick a few!

One of the question would be "Would you like to confess anything?"
or "Confessions: "

Anyone else have some questions, or feedback on the ones we've got suggested already?

my standard gets some info out of them

1. What interests do you have outside of video games and television

2. whats a cool story you have that involves your family or friends.

3. and my favorite, Nylon or Rubber

tbh the system is fine the way it is (see our dual trying now banned applicant if you need any proof)

but more info is always good

Ok so after some thought, I'm willing to change the "Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself" to something more direct (see above examples) I think it says a lot about an applicant when they freely offer insight to their personality rather than it being pulled from them.

I don't disagree. I just saw it as the question is kind of open ended. "Do I want to share more, sure, but...about what? All the questions thus far have been about the game or the character." So maybe a clarification such as: "Is there anything you can share about yourself when the computer gets turned off?" (Or something similarly cheesy. LOL)

Although, the question can be kept the same, and adding some seemingly random questions can be fun as well. My fave used to be "What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?" I would get answers from the correct "What do you mean, African, or European?" to the clearly Googled "26.67 kph" or the lazy "LOL I don't know man!" And each answer tells you about someone in a way that they can't think of. It's human nature to try and figure out the answer to a question that the tester is wanting to hear...a question like that is hard to beat. It tells us "ok, the guy has a sense of humor, watches movies, and isn't completely addicted to his computer," or "Ok, never seen a Python movie, but he's at least willing to research the question to come up with that answer. (i.e. a person that is most likely dedicated to learning all they can about their character.) or "Lazy asshat, no funny, no homework, YOU FAIL!" LOL

But yeah...glad the suggestion is well received. Seems like we just need to help Brakk nail down what he wants to say without gutting what he wants to achieve! Always glad to help, Chief!
