Nice. Yeah that's a rough one for sure. I used traffic noise once for the opposite. It was a Monday morning, alarm went off at 7 am. I must have hit "off" instead of "snooze", which is unusual because one is a button and one is a three position switch. Next thing I know my eyes are open again and I look at the clock it's 9:45. I had a meeting scheduled with a client at 10:00, and it's usually a 30 min drive or sometimes longer depending on traffic for me to get to work. I figured my boat was pretty sunk. My apartment is on North Ave, a busy Chicago street. It backs up in the morning so there are lines of cars just out the window, and it's buildings on both sides so sound bounces and it's noisy if you have the windows open. So I opened up my front window, stuck half my body outside in my P.J.'s and called the client. Through the traffic noise I yelled "Yeah I'm on the express way and it's really backed up for some reason"... that one seemed to work. Got me off the hook ;-)
So the moral? If you're going to make up something to get out of work make sure you modify your story to take the enviornment into account!
